MATT IDE

Matt grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, playing for the Providence Hockey Club, where he attended two National Development Camps. He went on to captain his high school team at LaSalle Academy before continuing his education and hockey career at the State University of New York at Geneseo. While at Geneseo, Matt helped lead the team to its first-ever NCAA Frozen Four appearance in school history.

Following his collegiate career, Matt transitioned into coaching and has never looked back. Now a full-time skills coach and the owner/operator of Powerstride Hockey, he brings 30 years of coaching experience to the game. He currently serves as a coach for the Oswego Lakers ACHA Division 1 team, where he has made a significant impact. Last season, Matt led the Lakers to their best overall record in program history (20-7-1), and in the 2023-24 season, he guided the team to its first NECHL regular-season conference championship in 19 years. Known for his defensive expertise, Matt takes pride in running a highly effective penalty kill, maintaining a 90%+ efficiency over the past two seasons.

Matt’s passion for coaching was sparked by the opportunity to both attend and work camps with legendary hockey mind Lou Lamoriello (GM, New York Islanders). He considers Lamoriello to be one of, if not the greatest, hockey minds in the game—an influence that continues to shape his coaching philosophy today.
